So Ted Leonsis the Wizards "pending owner" likes the Wizards' future? Is excited, hopeful, about happy tomorrows for the Washington basketball franchise? The Associated Press reports, "Ted Leonsis is excited about the team's victory in Tuesday's NBA draft lottery and says the franchise will follow the blueprint that has led his Capitals to become one of the NHL's best teams." See the video.
The late Abe Pollin, the previous owner, was a real estate guy, and he built sports arenas, and because he needed to, he put sports teams in them. The local legend goes that Old Abe was more interested in putting people's behinds in the seats of his arenas than he was in putting a first rate team on the court. Abe was very stingy when it came to players, he spent middling money and got middling teams. Ted Leonsis has a history of opening his wallet, going after the high priced talent and hoping for the best. In the video clip below, Excited Ted says that he will build a team around young players, develop them, and hints that the wallet is open -- if he has to spend to retain them. Well, go to it Ted. Get the show started. Ted's excited about the future, and I'm excited about Ted.
